I've always been a treasure seeker. What can be as exciting as uncovering a lost mine or a hidden cache of riches, whether it be aboard a Spanish galleon off the coast of Florida or the Lost Dutchman Mine in Arizona?

Each Monday morning, treasure hunters methodically walk in a grid pattern on California beaches, skimming hand-held metal detectors across the sand. During weekend beach parties, people accidentally drop coins and jewelry. A quarter here, a half-dollar there; an ankle bracelet here, an engagement ring there - these industrious fellows make a good living scouring the beaches for treasures.

In my enthusiasm for finding the "big strike," I never thought much about the smaller treasures that might be lying about my feet. The same can be true for becoming aware of the essence of God's presence in your life. Begin by asking God to open your eyes to the heaven-sent treasures already scattered at your feet - a promise here, a blessing there, a rainbow here, a rosebud there.

Be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5).
