True religion lies in following the principles Jesus gave - not in order to buy God's goodwill, but as a response to His gift of love. Jesus teaches that salvation comes with the kind of faith that shows itself in acts of love and mercy. The followers of Jesus do more than just talk about faith - they live it. "The true children of God are those who let God's Spirit lead them" (Romans 8:14). God's true children aren't those who are merely touched by the Spirit, or who follow the Spirit's urging now and then; His true children are those who let the Spirit lead them daily.

Do you find yourself in darkness, looking for light? Begin by following the light you do have - follow what you understand of Jesus' teachings in the Bible. His life-changing power is in His Word. Accept His words with faith, and they will give you the power to obey. If you live faithfully according to what you know, you will learn more. You are building your character on God's Word, and as you do so, you will become more and more like Jesus.
