Jesus' presence in our lives gives us an abiding sense of peace. Even though He was often surrounded by conflict, Jesus lived at peace. No storm of human or satanic anger could disturb the calm of His connection to God. To us He says, "I leave you peace; my peace I give you...so don't let your hearts be troubled or afraid" (John 14:27).

It is our own self-pride that destroys our peace. As long as we hold on to it, we need to defend ourselves from embarrassment and insults. But when we give it up, we pay no attention if we are ignored or insulted. Instead, we respond with love.

When happiness is based on earthly circumstances and relationships, it comes and goes. But the peace Jesus brings is constant. It doesn't depend on wealth, possessions, or friends. Peace flows from Jesus like a fountain, and that fountain never goes dry.
